O believes vast majority of environmental problems such as pollution, water shortages, deforestation, and species loss as well as population growth, hunger, and AIDS, are area-specific and highly correlated with poverty. O argues that resources could be put to much better use in aiding poor countries overcoming their poverty and thus solving their deforestation, water, hunger and pollution problems or fighting diseases like AIDS. Improvements in education, safety, leisure, and ever more widespread access to consumer goods are signs that prosperity is increasing in most parts of the world. For their to be sustaine prosperity requires profit on company endeavors. Arguably, from the perspective of sustainability, if a strong focus is not maintained on the value proposition for the product or service for sale, profits will be affected and consequently a business’s ability to have any impact through its purpose (People and/or Planet) will be eroded. |
